MULTIGENERATIONAL DANCE CLASSES

Littles & Laters classes are designed for grown-ups and kids to explore their creative curiosities together and experience dance and joy in motion. Intrinsic to the Littles & Laters curriculum are the three core concepts of holistic view of personhood, playfulness, and intergenerational connections. These are the guiding principles upon which the curriculum was developed. Nested into each class are the core competencies of developmental movement, functional movement, and brain health.

Littles & Laters dance classes are offered as a full 12-week semester with a culminating performance or as a pop-up workshop.

Each 60-min class is devoted to a full body warm-up, movement across the floor, and dance-making exercises.

The culminating performance shows the pieces that the students have created collaboratively over the course of the semester as well as a piece of learned choreography.

Littles & Laters classes are designed for kids and grown-ups to experience the joy of dance together while enhancing motor skills and brain health for all.

These Classes are offered Free of Charge with support from our Funders

GROW

Students will learn important movement skills such as body and spatial awareness, and coordination of movement and effort. Students will engage in social emotional learning by engaging in individual and group activities and adhering to class guidelines for safety. Students will have the opportunity for self-expression through creative prompts in dance-making. Most importantly, students will experience physical activity as a joyful and fun way to be in and with their bodies as well as a way to form connections with others.

PLAY

The curriculum is broken down into four main areas for play. Each one should be taught for a semester and can rotate through for as long as the class exists in a certain space. The areas are nature play, energy play, concrete play, and conceptual play.

CONNECT

Littles & Laters dance classes are designed with an understanding of how humans pass down knowledge through stories and experiences. We bring together people of different ages, abilities, and interests to learn through creative movement and innovative play. Students gather in multigenerational groups and work together in a creative process towards a culminating performance.

Littles & Laters was created in partnership with Woodside on the Move with support from Creatives Rebuild NY’s Artist Employment Program. CRNY, a project of the Tides Center, was incorporated in 2021 as a three-year, $125 million investment in the financial stability of New York State artists and the organizations that employ them.
