Infant Developmental Movement Education
Infant Developmental Movement Educators (IDMEs) take a family-centered approach to facilitate a baby’s movement development from birth through toddlerhood. IDMEs observe, educate, facilitate, and play with all family participants to create understanding around baby’s current strengths and what might happen next in their developmental trajectory. Caregivers feel supported as the experts in their baby.

IDME Playgroup

IDME playgroups provide a space for caregivers to connect with other caregivers and explore any questions they may have around developmental movement. Caregivers can enter with their babies at any point in the first half hour and leave as needed. IDMEs provide support through education, observation, and reflection and believe that more resources lead to the capacity for more exploration. Additional support may come in the form of hands-on touch, facilitation of movement patterns, and exposure to new methods of play.

IDME Playgroups are offered as ongoing drop-in classes

GROW

Sessions with an IDME start with observation to become witness to the babyโ€™s movement patterns and meet the baby where they are. Observation helps baby develop a sense of safety with both caregiver and IDME present. As baby grows, IDME and caregiver notice new skill-building for further support.

PLAY

Using toys, hands-on touch, and positioning an IDME follows the curiosity of baby to join or support them in play. Play may arise out of a question from the caregiver and act as a place for further observing baby behavior and movement patterns. Hands-on facilitation helps baby sort out their own pathways into movement patterns.

CONNECT

IDME playgroups provide a space for caregivers to connect with other caregivers and explore the answers to any questions around developmental movement. IDMEs provide support through education, observation, and reflection and believe that more resources lead to the capacity for more exploration.
